Win, loss for Lady Aztecs
CORONA • After earning a win in the first game of the Oak Hills Tournament on Wednesday, the Barstow girls basketball team won again on Thursday, before coming up short on Friday.
Thursday’s victory was a close one, as the Lady Aztecs held on for a 51-46 win over Lancaster. The offense was led by Vasa Alefaio, who scored 15 points. There were three other players in double digits, as Kayla Theis and Marissa Dado each netted 12 points, and Jasmine Green had 11.
Things didn’t go as well on Friday, with the Aztecs dropping a 53-38 decision to Oak Hills.
“It was just one of those games,” said varsity assistant coach Harold Green. “There was no one to blame, we just didn’t show up to play.”
Green was the high scorer in this one, with eight points, while Marion Mims had six points.
The Lady Aztecs are currently 3-1.
“We’re doing well so far,” said Green. “We’re young, and there’s a lot of room for improvement. This is a great group of kids and I think we’ll keep getting better as the season goes along.”
Barstow will play its first home game on Tuesday, facing off against Hesperia at 6 p.m.
