Jackrabbits wrestle past Aztecs

VICTORVILLE • The Barstow wrestling team took on defending CIF champ Victor Valley and lost, 53-21, on Wednesday.

The Aztecs won four matches and had to forfeit two weight classes.

“They’re one of the best teams in the High Desert and we wrestled them pretty tough,” said Aztecs coach Sam Barnhart. “The kids gave it all they had. They have nothing to hang their heads about, and I’m proud of that.”

Taking victories were Barstow’s Ryan Barela, who pinned Necizo Nesbeth in 56 seconds in the 120-pound division. At 126-pounds, Chris Velasco took a 7-4 decision over Gabe Hernandez, and Neil Navarro won by pin in 3:03 at 182-pounds. Adam Valdez won at 106-pounds by forfeit.

Putting up a good fight was heavyweight Kiler Hilmeyer who lost to Anthony Rosario, 3-1, in overtime.

The Aztecs (7-11, 1-1) will be at Serrano next Thursday.
