Barstow U-12 All-Stars win TOC
PALM DESERT • The Barstow U-12 girls All-Star soccer team won the Tournament of Champions, held in Palm Desert January 26 and 27.
In this tourney, the best eight teams out of District 5 competed against each other for the championship. The coaches knew this was going to be a difficult run.
The first game of the tournament was against an undefeated HDYSL. The Barstow girls came out fighting and won, 2-1. The strong defensive line, along with goalie Makenzie McSwain, allowed only one goal the rest of the tournament. Every member of the team contributed to the success, with the midfield and offensive lines also doing their part, getting seven goals from five different players.
The title game was an intense and a highly emotional one. It became a repeat match against Rialto, the team that the Barstow girls played in the championship game at the President’s Cup in Apple Valley earlier in the month. The Barstow All-Stars came out with a vengeance and shut them out, 2-0, taking home the trophy in the Tournament of Champions.
