Surprise, surprise: Aztecs win Powder Puff game
Comments 0 | Recommend 0BARSTOW• On a cold and crisp fall night the Barstow High School senior class, along with their parents and friends took to Langworthy Field for the 37th annual Powder Puff game Thursday night. The Aztecs won handily for the 37th consecutive year 92-1.
There was hostility already in the air during pre-game after the team representing the Victorville Jackrabbits ran and trampled the Aztecs football players and cheerleaders before they could step on the field.
Both teams, including the male cheerleaders, were dressed to impress the football god’s. Everyone walked around the field and took pre-game pictures with their friends.
“You get to dress up sexy. You get to mess around and punk the Aztecs as a Jackrabbit. It’s the only time we can do it,” senior cheerleader Phillip Peralta said.
The Aztecs were awarded five points to begin the game due to several Victorville penalties. “It’s because Victorville cheats,” said the announcer.
The Jackrabbits completed a long touchdown pass on a statue-of-liberty play. The Aztecs somehow were rewarded the points because of a scoreboard error. They led 32-0 at the half.
During the half-time show the Victorville girl’s football team danced first to a mix of Young Joc, Juvenile and more. The boys cheerleading squad came next and moved to the music of Lil Wayne.
The Aztecs came next. They came out yelling, jumping and dancing to MIA, and Britney Spears.
“I was excited. I was looking foward to this since I was a freshmen,” said senior Taryn Cardoza.
The second half, as expected was more of the same beating the Aztecs gave to the Jackrabbits. All the seniors on the sidelines hugged before the final gun went off and the Aztecs could celebrate their victory.
“It’s really exhilarating. It shows a lot for my senior year,” Senior Charlene Kim said.
