Barstow U-14 girls win TOC

PALM DESERT • The Barstow U-14 girls All-Star soccer team won the Tournament of Champions, held in Palm Desert last weekend.

In this tourney, the best eight teams out of District 5 competed against each other for the championship. The Barstow girls showed their strength in both offense and defense by scoring 14 goals and allowing only two in four games. Barstow captain Anna Alvarado led the scoring with nine goals, while team captain Aubrey Baker anchored the best defense in the tournament.

The title game was an intense and physical one which was tied, 1-1, at the end of regulation. At eight minutes into overtime, the always-dangerous captain Alvarado scored the winning goal, giving Barstow the TOC championship. The title completed a season in which the Barstow girls went undefeated in the Presidents Cup and the TOC.
