Karate students compete in Ontario

ONTARIO • Students from the American Karate Association of Champions and through the City of Barstow Parks and Recreation competed at the United States Karate Alliance Westwind Karate Tournament on Nov. 3 in Ontario.


Ten year-old Jonathan Swisher did well, taking first-place finishes in sparring and kata. The brown belt also took on a black belt opponent in weapons, and came in second. Orange belt Alex Warner, also 10, placed second in sparring and third in kata.


Natalie Warner, age 8, is a white belt who was competing in a tournament for the first time, and placed fourth in sparring. Roy Johnston, a brown belt, placed third in men’s kata and third in sparring. Ben Warner, age 32, an orange belt, was first in sparring and second in kata.
