Lady Aztecs no match for Burros

RIDGECREST • The Barstow girls basketball team suffered its seventh loss of the season Wednesday night, losing to a strong Burros squad, 52-24.

The Lady Aztecs got off to a decent start, trailing 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. Things didn’t go as well from there, according to assistant coach Harold Green.

“We played a pretty good first quarter, but it was all downhill after that,” he said. “We were never able to come back. We just weren’t ready to play.”

Maxine Cook was the only Aztec scoring in double figures, with 10 points. Vasa Alefaio did well off the boards, taking down eight rebounds.

Barstow has a record of 8-7 overall after the loss, 2-3 in the Desert Sky League. Burroughs is 11-4, 4-1.

“We’ll rebound, we’ll be alright,” said coach Green. “We’re looking forward to Victor Valley tomorrow.”

The Lady Aztecs will play at home next Friday against Silverado.
