BHS Football: Jackson honors aunt with pink equipment
Comments 0 | Recommend 0BARSTOW • When Carlos Jackson takes the field tonight he will do so with his normal maroon and gold colors but with an added accent — Pink.
In honor of his aunt Tammy Hoffman, who has breast cancer, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Barstow High School senior defensive back will done pink socks and arm bands along with several of his teammates.
Jackson said Hoffman, who will be at the game, is doing well but undergoing her sixth round of the chemotherapy.
He got the idea from watching NFL players wear pink gear in recent weeks. The Burroughs High School football team wore pink socks last week.
“I just wanted to show her that I don’t know what she’s going through, but I can be here to help her mentally,” said Jackson, who wore pink tape last week. “I just thought that it’d be a good idea for our team to do it, to show that we care and we are not just some team out here in the desert.”
Jackson is relatively new to Barstow. He transferred from Upland just before school started but has made a significant impact on the Barstow defense in recent weeks. He took an interception back for a touchdown against San Bernardino and recovered a fumble that helped set off a Barstow comeback to begin the third quarter against Burroughs last week.
