Trojans slain by Broncs
LAKE ISABELLA • Kern Valley scored three touchdowns in the first quarter on the way to a 45-21 win over Silver Valley in last Friday’s football action.
The Trojans were set back on their heels in the game’s first few minutes, and were left in the position of trying to regain lost ground for the rest of the night.
“We got off the bus and gave them 21 points right away,” said Silver Valley head coach John Stewart. “We spotted them those points in the first seven minutes, then we finally started to play.”
The Trojans’ Dante Fields had an interception that led to Myron Sykes’ touchdown run two plays after Kern’s third score, to get Valley on the board. Dan Quixchan finished the first half with a 59-yard run into the end zone to make it a 31-14 game at the half.
The final Trojan points were scored by Brian Ili, who finished the game with a 10-yard TD run.
The loss brought the Trojans’ record to 2-4.
Coach Stewart thinks the game was just a case of a young team against a squad that made the playoffs last year, compounded by a long road trip.
“Kern Valley is a very good team with a lot of speed. We had our worst defensive performance against a team that has playoff hopes,” he said. ‘We were in position to make plays on defense all night long and couldn't capitalize.
“We have a much-deserved bye week this week, to get healed, and then we have Homecoming.”
The Trojans will host Vasquez for their Homecoming Game, Valley’s final home game of the season, on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
