Vikings come up short against Valley

BARSTOW • The Barstow Community College men’s basketball team hosted San Bernardino Valley on Wednesday night, and lost a competitive game, 75-64, in Foothill Conference action.

The Vikings were able to keep pace with Valley through much of the contest, playing well alongside a team that came in with records of 14-4, 3-1. Barstow head coach Reggie Howard was pleased with the effort, but knows that against such a team a solid 40 minutes of play, with no let-up, is required.

“We played well, we played tough, but we didn’t have enough,” he said after the match. “We shot terrible from 3-point range, which was a big factor in the outcome.”

The Vikings put up a lot of perimeter shots, but finished at only 3-for-18.

Leading the Vikings’ attack was Abdul Zaid with 15 points, just short of his 17-ppg average this season. Cheikh Fall picked up a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, along with two blocks and two assists, while Brian Organ had 10 points, seven boards and six blocks.

The loss gives the Vikings records of 5-12, 0-5.

The next game is coming up on Saturday, at Victor Valley College. On Wednesday, Barstow hosts the College of the Desert for a 7 p.m. start.
