Little League: East Barstow's season ends

APPLE VALLEY — Saxon Andross wasn’t about to give East Barstow another shot at a late-game comeback.
The Victorville Ribbons pitcher propelled the Ribbons 10-0 victory past the 9- and 10-year-old East Barstow All-Stars at James A. Woody Park Tuesday night.

Andross threw a complete game one-hit shutout against a Barstow team that scored 13-runs in its previous victory in the semifinals on Monday. Andross said he wasn’t concerned about Barstow’s potential to rally.

“I just wanted to pitch it by them, and if they made contact, I had faith that my defense was going to get it to first,” Andross said.
East Barstow went a combined 5-2 in the District 49 tournament. Manager Michael Dokie said he felt his team did everything they could against the pitcher, who’s fastball reached into the 70s.

“We did as well as we could,” Dokie said. “The pitcher was overwhelming for us, and our team was shell shocked by him.”
Dokie said he was pleased with his team’s effort throughout the competition. In Monday night’s game against Spring Valley Lake, Barstow rallied in the final three innings, scoring 11 runs to win 13-12.

The 10-0 victory marks the second consecutive season the Victorville Ribbons have captured the District 49 championship. Throughout the tournament, Victorville was led by Reggie Lawson who had four home runs and a complete game shutout in his tournament performance.

Kaleyl Anderson’s double started the offensive scoring barrage in the first inning. Anderson drove in Corey Elder and Reggie Lawson to give the Ribbons an early 2-0 advantage. In the second inning, Jose Martinez’s double drove in Bryant Valenzuela, and was followed by Reggie Lawson who drove in Vision Pluma to make the score 4-0. Anderson drove in Martinez and Watson to make the score 6-0. Brett

Woods’ RBI scored Andross and Anderson, to give them an 8-0 lead at the conclusion of the second inning.
The Victorville Ribbons outscored their opponents a combined 67-3 during the course of the tournament, Ribbons manager Tye Andross said.

“We practice hard weekly, and they came to practice and are doing what they do with their bats,” Andross said. “I am going to let the kids celebrate, but tomorrow, it is back to work for them.”
Victorville advances to Sectionals which start Saturday at 8 a.m. at Hook Park in Victorville.

Tye Andross said his team is going to have to elevate their level of play substantially playing against a much larger pool of teams from the Southern California region.

“With each level, it gets a little more difficult,” Tye Andross said. “We are just going to have to continue to work hard, and not make many mistakes at the next level.”
