Why is county involved in local charter school?

At the Barstow Unified School District board of trustees meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 25, a charter school was seeking approval to open in Barstow.

At this meeting were three people who spoke in support of the charter school. One stated he was representing Brad Mitzelfelt who supports this charter school. Another stated she was from the probation department and they supported this charter school. Another was from the county code department and stated support for this charter school.

Are any of these people knowledgeable enough to even give a recommendation? I’m disturbed that Mr. Mitzelfelt’s opinion would even be important to the BUSD board. He knows nothing about BUSD. Why is county supporting this charter school and assisting in finding a location for it?
