Texting and driving can kill

Thank you, kudos and thank you again for running the letter about bad drivers!

The only thing I would add is cell phones. Text/driving is nothing less than a method of premeditated murder. Maybe it's just me but my life (or the life of my husband, children and grandchildren) is worth a wee bit more than your arranging — via text — meeting up at the mall or bar.

To be brutally honest, the world will keep spinning even if you don't continue that written conversation while operating a machine that will cause great bodily harm or death if it makes contact with a human body.

However, if you do continue to text, someone else's world can stop spinning.

Healthcare, or lack thereof

"Delay and deny and hope they die.” That's the motto of the health insurance gangsters. Private enterprise does a lot of things well; healthcare is not one of them. When maximizing profit means minimizing expenses, the outcome is a disaster for sick people. Maximizing profit equals maximum denials, euphemistically called "waiting for approvals" that take forever or are completely denied. That's the free market. Reread the motto. Medicine, however, is an anti-competitive enterprise. You don't shop around for the best deal when you are having an emergency heart bypass.

But, the Repugnicans have a better idea: make health care completely government free so that the health insurance hooligans can make even more money. Or, how about healthcare savings accounts? Great idea, but what if you have no money? So sorry, have you considered dying? How about purchasing insurance across state lines? No money? Ditto: death. Preconditions? How dare you; the gangsters don't want to insure you. They're out to make a profit; get lost. Or, the big, bad government will have to give you money to purchase insurance, which puts the government right back into healthcare. Let's get rid of Medicare while we're at it. Those reactionaries who loathe government interference in health care would go on the warpath. They love their socialist program even though they contributed a pittance compared to the benefits they are receiving.

Furthermore, I am assuming that all these letter writers who are for millions of people losing their health insurance absolutely love the unborn. Life is sacred in the womb. Don't mess with the unborn. However, after birth they really don't care if the born live or die. If they did, they would not be in the business of denying anyone healthcare. Everybody is entitled to good healthcare — the born and the unborn. Please, call the denial of healthcare for any American what it is: genocide.

Criminals and morons

I'm very compelled to comment on today's letters to you.

1. I couldn't have agreed more that former President Obama made a mess out of our healthcare system; hopefully it will be repealed.

2. Crime in Victor Valley. Yes sir, we have one helluva massive problem these days. I complain to anyone who will listen to me. Interestingly, they agree with me. It seems to be the general consensus it's due to "those types" who have moved up here from God knows where. My solution, after 19 years here, and a total of 41 in this county is to move away from California.

And 3. People drive like morons up here, with zero regard for the public safety. I'm fearful in every business parking lot I visit, and certainly on Bear Valley. That all started with the cell phone and people thinking it's their God-given right to use it whenever and however they please.

Translation: no respect for the law OR safety. I have communicated my contempt to Captain Schuler in Victorville and his traffic deputies. They are doing the best they can with the resources they have, so God bless them. Once again, "those people" who think they are a law unto themselves. Thanks for letting me concur with the writer's comments. They are spot on.

Tyranny

Once again we get a letter from a particular writer telling us “the entire socialist Democrat Party (it’s the Democratic Party, there is no Democrat Party) — which includes the education indoctrination establishment and the Pravda-style news media — who are exercising tyranny against the people at the expense of America’s survival by leading their lemmings over the edge of the abyss” and “fortunately, we have President Trump leading American patriots to take back America and save our future.”

Where is this “tyranny” this man is constantly speaking of?  Did President Obama try to silence media outlets or call them fake if they presented negative stories about him or send out incoherent tweets if someone offended him?  That’s what a tyrant would do.

Where is this “education indoctrination” taking place”? Trump turned a Boy Scout Jamboree into a far right political rally, even getting his victims to boo President Obama (Obama was a Boy Scout, Trump was not) like true Hitler Youth. Talk about indoctrination!

A tyrant would also single out a particular group for persecution to draw attention away from his crimes and corruption. Trump has now declared that transgender people can no longer serve in the military in any capacity because of “tremendous medical costs and disruption." Transgender soldiers already serve in the military, something Trump never did, and there have been no extra medical costs or disruptions. As always, Trump is lying to us.

In regards to the recent letter about the NSA and our Attorney General, how about this? What if we get a replacement who doesn't lie, repeatedly, under oath, to Congress and on his SF 86 security clearance form? Both of these actions are felonious and punishable by imprisonment.

I think we may well have to look elsewhere for candidates because it looks like quite a few members of the President's cabinet have either simultaneously developed memory issues or, could it be possible?, are lying, have lied, and will continue to lie to Congress, the Senate, and the American people.

Oh well, they are only following the example set by the boss!
