Lowering water rates

While it is accurate that Apple Valley Assistant Town Manager Marc Puckett has stated that water rates can be lowered should the town be successful in its hostile takeover of Liberty Utilities ("Eminent domain case slow to start," Daily Press, January 28, 2017), it is worth noting that then-mayor-pro-tem Barb Stanton elaborated on this statement by pointing out this would not happen until the bond is paid off, that is, 30 years or more after the long, drawn-out acquisition process ("Assemblyman discusses benefits, pitfalls of water system acquisition," Daily Press, October 8, 2015).

In thirty-plus years, those of us who are still alive won't still be in office, which means there is no accountability attached to Mr. Puckett's promise of lower water rates based on his flawed (and now outdated) analysis. Of course, once the town seizes control of the water system, there's no going back, no matter how badly it turns out.

Our water system currently is locally controlled, fully funded, well run, competitively-priced, and completely transparent, in stark contrast to affairs at Town Hall. Why anyone would want a bunch of feckless and unaccountable nabobs at Town Hall running our water system instead of leaving it to the professionals at Liberty Utilities is a real mystery.

Pence: 'Life is Winning'

Vice President Mike Pence tells us today that "Life is winning in America." Where were VP Pence and the "Life is winning in America" crowd when they sent us combat veterans to that fake, made-up war in Iraq and Afghanistan?

G.W. Bush/Dick Cheney/Donald Rumsfeld made up a war and the whole "weapons of mass destruction lie" so they could go to war and send us to fight, die and be wounded and messed up for life, so they could enhance their financial bottom lines. That is the unfortunate reality that came out of the deceit of this Republican/Halliburton/defense contractor war.

Did any of you civilians read any of those words? Did any of you who voted Republican even know they manufactured this fake war for money? No, you did not. Do any of you know that the Republicans have vetoed all veterans legislation, vetoed 27 new V.A. hospitals costing $24 billion but the Republicans found $269 billion in tax cuts for their rich corporate and personal friends.

All of you right wing Republicans say President Obama is responsible for our current $18 trillion debt. In 2008 it was $9 trillion. The Bush/Cheney war added $6 trillion, making $15 trillion in debt, before we even look at President Obama.

This combat U.S. Marine just has one thing to say. I will always support our current President 100 percent. Lastly, President Obama, thank you for being one of our best ever. Semper Fi Sir.

Voice of America

In this day of “alternative facts” it is dismaying to see the Trump administration gaining control of the Voice of America by replacing its Board of Governors with two Trump ideologues in their twenties as overseers of this venerable organization. Starting in 1942 to replace German and Japanese propaganda, it exists today to spread our message of democracy to countries around the world reaching 280 million people.

By a completely unnoticed item in this year’s Defense budget the Broadcast Board of Governors was fired and, also by order of this defense bill item, for the first time the Voice of America will be broadcast in the United States. With the two peach-fuzz appointees, President Trump will have the public’s ear. Is this the reason he is attacking the mainstream media that played such a big part putting him in office? Stay tuned, but with a jaundiced ear.

Clear Channel Communications controls 1,200 radio stations and now they will hear nothing but Voice of America the way they once listened to Rush Limbaugh.

Learn, love, live

I say, "Learn it, Love it, and Live it" in response to "We Can't Get Over It" on 01/27.

The conservative response to President Obama was retirees pushing the Tea Party movement and showing up in the streets. They packed in and packed out. Everything was clean. Paid Democrat protesters went to the streets with Occupy Wall Street, in which laws were violated, people were raped, permits weren't acquired, and they left as big a mess in the streets as the women's rights march recently. Also, people died in tents from CO poisoning because their art history degrees didn't prepare them for scientific laws of the universe or a real job.

The Greenies should've had a fit, but they didn't, because they're on the same team. The silent majority is me. I didn't hit the streets. I have a job and responsibilities. Liberals don't. The recent election was a real shock. Not to me, however. It's been a long time building. Black Lives Matters for thugs and drug addicts while cattle ranchers had the hounds of hell loosed on them. And this is a one-sided debate here? I think not. We have a man of action and he's going to make the hard calls that liberals are too weak to make on their own due to ignorance and inexperience. We're bringing the hammer down. Learn it, live it, love it. And that goes for the GOP as well. This is a GOP defeat, make no mistake.

Immigration fight

This immigration fight over President Trump's executive order for the purpose of making us safe is utterly insane. Our Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution for the protection of the American people, not foreigners. People from other countries should have no legal standing in the United States whatsoever. The fact that our courts have over the years extended these rights to those undeserving is a disgrace.

It's time for we the people to demand a conservative Supreme Court to return sanity to the execution of our federal laws.

Trump

If you voted for president Trump, you voted for a liar and a coward. If you still think that this man is the best thing for America then you are a coward too. How ashamed you must feel putting cowardice above helping people who have lost everything just because they were born in a war-torn country. They have been heavily vetted for two years before they are allowed to resettle in another country. The paperwork doesn't just sit on a desk somewhere, they are actively vetted.

"Mexico is paying for the wall."  I couldn't believe that you fell for that lie.  Yes, Trump is a liar and a coward. That is who you voted for.

Well, so much for "the land of the free and the home of the brave."  It is now the "land of the free (except for Muslims) and the home of the cowards.
