SVUSD's Jackson: Superintendent of the Year

Recognition part of ACSA's yearly awards

YERMO • Marc Jackson has been named San Bernardino County Superintendent of the Year as selected by the Association of California School Administrators.

In a letter sent to the Silver Valley Unified School District superintendent Sunday, the ACSA stated that Jackson’s award was “based on (his) outstanding qualifications.”

But Jackson credits those he works with.

“We’ve got a lot of great people doing a lot of great things. I see this as recognition for what the district has been doing for quite some time,” he said. “It’s never about me; it’s about the triangle of the student, the teacher and the parent.”

Karen Gray, SVUSD school board president, said Jackson “embodies collaboration” in a prepared statement. She lauded his “focus on improved services and willingness to take on challenges on behalf of students and staff.”

“His leadership is translating to better educational experiences for students and families,” the statement read, “which is also producing successful student test results.”

SVUSD accumulated an API score of 796 in 2012, with four of its six ranked schools scoring over the statewide goal of 800, according to analysis from the California Department of Education.

An awards banquet on April 22 is up next for Jackson, who has the chance of earning statewide recognition. A State ACSA committee will make their selection for state Superintendent of the Year from all nominations submitted by each ACSA region.

Jackson will represent Region 12, which encompasses all school districts within San Bernardino County — the largest in the country.
