Man arrested for burning woman at gas station

CIMA • A 35-year-old Apple Valley resident was arrested on suspicion of torture and arson causing injury after lighting a convenience store bathroom on fire while a woman was locked inside Friday morning.

Damon Alan Spicer and a woman from Adelanto got into a fight as they traveled together northbound on Interstate 15, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department report. The pair exited the freeway and went to the Shell Service Station on Cima Road. The woman then locked herself in the bathroom to get away from Spicer, according to the report.

Spicer then lit a fire at the base of the bathroom door after the woman wouldn’t leave the bathroom, according to the report. The fire burned Spicer’s arm and shirt, and caused first and second degree burns to the woman’s ankles. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene.

Spicer fled northbound on Interstate 15 in a car, but California Highway Patrol officers found and arrested him, according to the report. He is currently being held on $526,000 bail at the Barstow jail.
