High winds from a storm blew the roof off of Alfonso Melendez’s house on the 24000 block of West Main Street. The winds also blew a swamp cooler off the house and damaged several other houses in the area.  Melendez’s neighbor Jim Waln said his roof also suffered damage from the wind. Melendez, who has lived in Barstow for 66 years, said he has never seen winds like those that blew through Lenwood on Monday.
