Man, wife reach plea bargain in molestation case
BARSTOW • A plea bargain was reached for a Barstow man charged with molesting seven children, according to court records on Wednesday.
Scott Johnson, 41, pleaded guilty to three counts of oral copulation with a person under 14 on Tuesday, court records showed.
His wife, Mioshi Johnson, 37, pleaded guilty to two counts of willful cruelty to a child.
In April, Scott Johnson was arraigned on charges of molesting seven of his female relatives ranging in age from 5 to 10 years old in 2007. His wife, Mioshi, was charged with four counts of willful cruelty to a child, as police suspect she knew of the crimes and did nothing to stop them, Barstow Police Detective Keith Libby said at the time.
The alleged crimes went unreported until one of the victims told her parents, then other family members began investigating and reported the crimes to police.
More family members came forward as the investigation continued.
“It’s unusual that we have this many victims identified in one case in such a short period of time,” Libby said in April. “The information usually comes to us more spread out. We don’t get it all at once. It looks like these people started coming in right away.”
Sentencing for Scott and Mioshi Johnson is scheduled for Feb. 25.
