April trial date scheduled in Gomez sexual battery case
SAN BERNARDINO • Trial is scheduled to begin April 8 for former Barstow mayor Joe Gomez, who was accused of misdemeanor sexual battery in 2010, court records showed Tuesday.
The date was set following Tuesday’s pre-trial in San Bernardino where both prosecution and defense announced they were ready for trial. A trial readiness conference is scheduled for April 5, according to court records.
The San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office formally brought forth charges of misdemeanor sexual battery against the former mayor in February 2010. In the complaint, it is alleged Gomez touched an unidentified woman “for the specific purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification and sexual abuse” on Dec. 18, 2009.
Gomez pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in May 2010. He was not present at the pre-trial Tuesday, court records showed.
