Armed suspect arrested outside Del Taco
Police arrived for domestic dispute
BARSTOW• A domestic dispute inside a vehicle outside the Del Taco on First Street led to the arrest of a man suspected of possible gun charges, according to arrest records.
Mark Powers, a resident of Ventura, stepped out of the vehicle with a shotgun in his hand, Barstow Police Lt. Mike Hunter said Monday, after officers responded to 401 N. First Street on Sunday morning.
The responding officer requested assistance from another police unit at approximately 10:11 a.m., three minutes after arriving on scene, Hunter said.
At 10:13 a.m., Powers, 58, was taken into custody without incident, according to Hunter.
A small amount of marijuana was found in the vehicle and related charges are currently under review with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office, Hunter said.
Powers was arrested on suspicion of being a felon or drug addict in possession of a firearm and producing a firearm in front of a police officer, arrest records showed. He has not been convicted of any previous charges in San Bernardino County, according to court records.
He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to arrest records.
He is due to appear at Barstow Superior Court on Wednesday, booking records showed.
