450 stops, no arrests at DUI checkpoint

BARSTOW • A sobriety checkpoint ran by the California Highway Patrol didn’t net any drunk driving arrests Friday night.

CHP officer Taj Johnson said that officers stopped more than 450 cars at the checkpoint, which ran from 8 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m., Saturday at the intersection of Muriel Drive and Main Street. Officers tested five drivers who had been drinking, but they were let go when they were found to be below the legal limit.

Johnson said although no arrests were made, the officers also helped people correct the use of child car seats at the checkpoint.

One DUI arrest was made during last year’s checkpoint, according to Sgt. Mike Hunter of the Barstow Police Department.
