Heavy hay bales fall on I-40

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

WEST OF LUDLOW — About 20 hay bales weighing 2,000 pounds each fell on the Interstate 40 early Thursday morning.

At about 4 a.m., a trucker going west on the I-40 lost control of the vehicle, and a trailer the truck was hauling turned over about eight miles west of Ludlow, according to CHP officer Greg Smoak.

One vehicle hit a hay bale and was disabled, Smoak said. The heavy bales, which measured an estimated 10 feet by 4 feet, created “a mess,” Smoak said, as some cars dodged the heavy bales. However, no serious problems resulted.
