Mooning teens arrested for throwing rock at truck driver
BARSTOW • A Barstow man is set to appear in court Friday after he and two teens were arrested following reports the trio mooned motorists and threw a rock at a truck, cracking its windshield as it traveled at high speeds along Interstate 15 in Barstow.
Justin McLaughlin, 18, and two 17-year-old cohorts were booked Wednesday under suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and throwing a rock at a moving vehicle, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol. McLaughlin and another teen were also charged with resisting arrest.
CHP officers responded to the area at 7 a.m. Wednesday after receiving numerous calls reporting three individuals mooning passing motorists on the right shoulder along northbound I-15, north of East Main Street. When they arrived to the area, they approached a tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder. The truck driver reported three juveniles threw a rock through his front windshield and fled the scene toward the Hacienda Mobile Home Park.
Officers set up a perimeter around the park at 2100 Soapmine Road and found three juveniles matching the descriptions given by the truck driver.
McLaughlin and one of the teens fled the scene and after a foot pursuit and search were taken into custody. The third was taken into custody without incident.
The teens were booked into the San Bernardino County Juvenile Detention Center. McLaughlin is being held at West Valley Detention Center in lieu of $60,000.
McLaughlin is set to face his charges Friday at Barstow Superior Court.
