Robbery attempt injures elderly man
One suspect ID'd in police lineup
BARSTOW• An elderly man was injured after would-be thieves attempted to rob him near Union Bank, authorities said.
Police responded to 239 E. Main St. during the early evening of Saturday in response to an attempted strong-armed robbery. The suspects — two white males — ran east, Barstow Police Lt. Mike Hunter said.
The robbery left the victim, an elderly man, bleeding from his arm, Hunter said. No weapon was found on scene.
Police later located two suspects at the 800 block of East Main Street, across the street from U-Haul. During a police lineup, the victim and one witness identified Kenneth Bailey, 45, as one of the men involved in the attempted robbery, Hunter said.
A second suspect was not identified and remains at large.
Bailey, a Barstow resident, was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery as well as elder abuse “due to the age of the victim,” Hunter said. Bailey was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s jail in Barstow in lieu of $50,000 bail, arrest records showed.
He is due to appear at Barstow Superior Court on Wednesday, according to booking records.
Police investigation into the incident is ongoing to possibly identify and arrest the second suspect involved, authorities said.
