City Council recap: Oct. 20, 2008
BARSTOW • The Barstow City Council took the following actions at their meeting Monday night.
LENWOOD RAILROAD BRIDGE • Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre reviewed where the money to build the nearly $40 million bridge is coming from and how the city spends money on its local streets. In the next two years, the city has about $14 million budgeted for local streets, she said. Council member Tim Silva talked about the importance of the project to Barstow’s future growth.
WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT • The Council unanimously awarded a $1.1 million contract to Pacific Hydrotech Corporation to construct the first phase of improvements to the wastewater treatment facility. Mark Murphy, a senior analyst on the wastewater project, told the Council that these improvements will bring the facility into compliance and meet the deadline imposed by the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board.
BARSTOW SENIOR CENTER • The Council reissued a request for bids to install solar panels at the Barstow Senior Center. During the first round of bidding, the city received no bids that it accepted.
BROKEN WATER PIPE • Mayor Lawrence Dale also offered to pay for work city employees did over the weekend to stop a water leak at a campaign fundraiser he held. Dale rented Foglesong Park for the event, and a water pipe broke during the event. City workers on call for the weekend came out and fixed the pipe, said John Rader, spokesman for the city. The mayor is under no obligation to pay the city for the repair work.
