Pistachio Fest readies for 15th year
NEWBERRY SPRINGS • In Newberry Springs, farmers are known for their pistachio nuts. And on Saturday, growers from across the desert will be showcasing this year’s yield at the 15th Annual Pistachio Festival.
With live music, craft vendors and pistachio growers, organizers said they’re expecting between 1,000 to 2,000 attendees.
“People come from all over and some even come from different states,” festival organizer Jill Shadle said.
Pistachio growers at the event won’t be selling just ordinary nuts. There will be a variety of flavors including garlic, smoked, chile limon, jalepeno and salt and pepper.
“There’s lots and lots of different flavors — I can’t even name them all,” Shadle said.
The event is at the South End of Newberry Road, just off Old Route 66. Doors open at 9 a.m. and admission is free. Live music and a bike raffle will occur throughout the day.
