Power outage caused by car accident
BARSTOW • A car hit a power pole causing a power outage for approximately 1, 200 Barstow residents late Wednesday evening.
The accident occurred at Opal and Forane streets, where a vehicle drove onto the sidewalk and collided with the pole, Sgt. Mike Hunter with the Barstow Police Department said Friday.
Damages were a tripped circuit, causing most customers to lose power for only 90 seconds around 9 p.m., Southern California Edison spokeswoman Nancy Jackson said. However, she said others were without power until 1:30 a.m.
Residents said they saw lights out at Walmart and the Circle K gas station on Main Street.
“We noticed lights were out all over,” Barstow resident Michelle Lee said on Facebook. “It was weird, we were in Barstow eating after church and the lights flickered right before we left.”
Barstow police shut down part of the roadway because of dangling wires and notified the electric company, which responded with a repair crew.
The driver involved was not arrested and alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
