Fort Irwin plans community ‘listening session'
BARSTOW• Brig. Gen. Ted Martin, Commanding General of Fort Irwin and the National Training Center, will host a “community listening session” on Wednesday to discuss the reorganization and reduction of U.S. Army forces, according to a Fort Irwin news release.
The Army must reduce its forces by 80,000 soldiers over the next five years as required by the federal Budget Control Act of 2011.
The Department of the Army will host 30 sessions at bases across the country to receive public input and “to mitigate the impact as much as possible on local communities.”
The session is scheduled to be held immediately following the “State of the City, County and Military Bases” at the Hampton Inn in Lenwood at 2 p.m.
