Two vehicles hit head on
KRAMER JUNCTION • A Boron man died and a Victorville woman was among two injured in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 395 about a mile south of State Route 58, according to a Thursday report from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner.
Robert Walton, 54, was traveling northbound in a 1985 Pontiac Fiero at 4:06 p.m. Wednesday afternoon when the driver of a southbound 2009 Kia Rendo crossed over a solid double-yellow line in an attempt to pass several vehicles, according to the report.
The Kia was approximately halfway past a commercial vehicle as it approached an obstructed rise in the roadway and came upon the Fiero. Both parties attempted to evade one and another by swerving their vehicles east to the dirt shoulder.
The vehicles collided head-on, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
Walton sustained multiple traumatic injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at 5:02 p.m., according to the Coroner’s report.
The driver of the Kia, an 18-year-old woman from Napa, was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton. The passenger of the Kia, an 18-year-old woman from Victorville, was taken to Loma Linda Medical Center. Both sustained major injuries as a result of the crash, according to the CHP. Their names and the specifics of their injuries were not released.
All three involved were wearing their seatbelts at the time, the release said. The Barstow-area CHP is investigating the collision.
