High winds wreak havoc
Comments 0 | Recommend 0High winds resulted in a traffic delay on Virginia Way on Wednesday; when an approximately 40-foot pine tree blew over in the road.
The tree fell at about 2:30 p.m., city spokesman John Rader said. The westbound lane of Virginia Way just west of Lillian Drive was blocked for about half an hour before public works employees could haul it away. No cars or buildings were damaged. The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning, in effect until 2 a.m. Thursday, with sustained winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour and gusts of up to 60 miles per hour, meterologist Stan Czyzyk said.
The highest recorded wind speed in the Barstow area on Wednesday was 65 miles per hour, recorded in Daggett at about 10:10 a.m.
