City and hospital dignitaries man shovels at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Barstow Community Hospital Wednesday.
After years of meetings, plans and argument, more than 300 people gathered under a tent to celebrate the facility’s groundbreaking. Hospital CEO Michael Stewart thanked city officials and the community and urged them to continue to have faith that the new hospital will be finished.
“This is the culmination of almost 50 years of effort by the leaders of this community,” he said. “(This hospital) will be the hub of health care in the High Desert.”
The new hospital is expected to be finished by the end of 2012. It will be 80,000 square feet and offer 30 private beds.
