Man killed in Highway 395 head-on collision
Updated on March 4 to provide name of the deceased and correct the man's age from 55 to 56.
BARSTOW• A 56-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 395 early Friday morning, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.
At approximately 5:15 a.m., Barstow Area California Highway Patrol received a call of a head-on collision near Kramer Junction with one male occupant in each vehicle, according to a CHP news release.
The driver of a red Dodge Dakota pickup truck was traveling south on Highway 395 when the driver of a blue Honda Civic in the northbound lane crossed over and collided with the Dodge, the news release said.
The driver of the Dodge, Guadalupe Gutierrez Serrano, a Ridgecrest resident, was pronounced dead at the scene by San Bernardino County Fire officials from Helendale at 5:33 a.m., according to the coroner’s office.
The driver of the Honda sustained major injuries and was flown by helicopter to Antelope Valley Hospital in Palmdale.
The traffic collision is under investigation by Barstow Area CHP.
