Family of four displaced by house fire
Comments 0 | Recommend 0BARSTOW — A family of four was displaced after a fire broke out in their home early Saturday morning.
Barstow Fire Protection District responded to a report of a fire on Armory Road and Olive Court at about 3 a.m. Four engines and 13 firefighters from the Barstow district and the Marine Corps Logistics Base were able to contain the fire in about 15 minutes, according to a Barstow district report.
One of the occupants suffered a knee injury while evacuating the house, but there were no other injuries related to the fire, Capt. Steve Ross said.
The fire district estimated damage to the structure at $10,000 and the loss of contents at $15,000.
The husband and wife who lived in the house with their two children, ages 4 years and 19 months, were woken by their smoke detector. They found that a fire had broken out in their home-office room, evacuated the house and called 911, Ross said.
The fire spread from the office into the attic, and the rest of the house also suffered from smoke damage, Division Chief Sal Corrao said.
Ross said the cause of the fire appeared to be electrical, possibly sparked by office equipment.
The family is being assisted by the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
