Shooting leaves one in critical condition

BARSTOW — A shooting left a resident in the 100 block of Barcelona Court in critical condition Thursday night.

Barstow Police Sgt. Chris Kirby decline to identify the shooter. Only two people were involved in the incident, but Kirby declined to comment on whether anyone was a suspect because the shooting is still under investigation.

The victim was taken to an area hospital.

Three residents living on Barcelona Circle said they heard multiple gunshots fired around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Barcelona Circle resident Jerry Winders said he thought he heard six gunshots, and later witnessed police surveying the area Friday morning.

“I heard six gun shots, and I thought with the Fourth of July. They may have just been fireworks,” Winders said. “Then I heard a pop, pop, pop, and there were two or three pauses.”

There have been no arrests, Kirby said.

“It’s not a situation where I feel that the community needs to be concerned,” Kirby said. “We believe this is going to be an isolated incident.”

To report any information on the shooting, call Barstow Police Department at 760-255-5111. To remain anonymous, call WE-TIP at 1-800-78-CRIME or leave  information on the WeTip Web site at www.wetip.com.
