Conaway to run for Congress again in 2010
Comments 0 | Recommend 0HINKLEY • Local former Democratic Congressional candidate, Jackie Conaway, announced Thursday her intention to run against incumbent Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon for the 25th Congressional District in the 2010 midterm elections.
Conaway, who lives in Hinkley, ran against Barstow’s Congressional representative in 2008, losing with 42.2 percent of the votes. Conaway said she made the decision to run for Congress again in 2010 Wednesday because she wants to make sure the nation’s troops and veterans are taken care of. Many veterans go through medical and financial problems and wind up on the street.
“We’re in Barstow, we know everybody gets dumped here,” she said. “It’s not their fault. They have to go somewhere.”
Many of the reasons Conaway decided to run for the 25th Congressional District again are the same as her last campaign, she said. She’s concerned about the economy and the price of gas. The country is spending too much money on the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. And she’s concerned about the 40 to 50 million people who don’t have health care.
“There’s a lot of reasons,” she said. “Between the gas and the food and the health care, there’s a lot of people that just aren’t taken care of.”
Conaway said she didn’t yet have an answer on how she would solve the problems she sees, saying it’s too early in her campaign.
