California Highway Patrol Officer Matt Sais shows Arnulfo Mata and his son, Gabino, 5, how to properly secure Gabino in his car seat during the CHP's child safety seat clinic at the Barstow CHP station Saturday afternoon. By about 1 p.m., CHP officers had inspected about 10 car seats.

CHP Officer Taj Johnson said having a proper fitting car seat is invaluable. In the past three weeks, three children have died in collision on freeways around Barstow.

"It's saving the lives of kids," Johnson said.
