County OK's $830,000 for Calico toilets

CALICO • New restrooms and showers are coming soon to Calico Ghost Town.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors recently approved a construction contract for new restrooms and showers at Campground “O,” a camping and staging area.

Crown Contracting, Inc. will build two larger manufactured buildings, replacing two restroom and shower buildings for an overall cost of $830,000. The project is slated to finish before spring 2013.

Superintendent Wayne Watkins said the new restrooms will help to attract visitors, because the old ones are run down.

“We will have more bathrooms and showers, so it will make it nicer for people to come camp especially for the off-roaders. It will make it nicer for them to get cleaned up and enjoy their camping experience,” he said.

“Calico Ghost Town is already the most popular attraction in our regional park system and new restrooms are an investment that will ensure the facilities are top notch and will keep visitors coming from around the country and from around the world,” said San Bernardino County 1st District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt in a statement.
