Tea Party group stops for Barstow rally

BARSTOW • The Tea Party Express stopped for a rally in Barstow on Wednesday in order to encourage Tea Party members to vote in the Nov. 2 election.

The Tea Party Express is on a nationwide tour that began on October 18 and will end the day before Election Day.  The tour will also be stopping in Pasadena and San Diego.

Supporters of the Tea Party spoke about the importance of voting in the Nov. 2 election and even sang original songs about supporting the Tea Party.

Some local residents were there to encourage younger people to join in the Tea Party movement.

Norma and Alan Strong of Yermo said that they had been handing out copies of the U.S. Constitution to students at Silver Valley High so that younger people knew more about their constitutional rights.

“We’re trying to get the younger people involved,” said Alan Strong.

LaVerne Kemp of Tehachapi also attended the rally on Wednesday.  She was there to support the Tea Party movement.

“Hopefully we’ll wake up Washington, D.C., and they’ll stop calling us names,” said Kemp.  “(Elected officials) are our employees.”

Amy Kremer, chair of the Tea Party Express, spoke about the Tea Party’s goal of reducing the country’s debt.

“We cannot spend our way out of debt,” said Kremer.
