Buffet restaurant opens in Barstow Mall

BARSTOW • A Barstow man is hoping that those craving a wide variety of foods will give his new eatery a try.

Our Town Buffet opened last week in a Barstow Mall space formerly occupied by Lee’s Korean Restaurant. Owner Alex Perez plans to offer a different featured dish every night of the week in addition to the usual buffet staples.

“Barstow needs a good buffet,” said Perez. “People from Barstow can stay here and spend their money and save gas.”

The restaurant offers American food all of the time and featured dishes like southern style barbecue, seafood, and Mexican food once weekly. A breakfast buffet is also featured on weekends.

A crew of 20 was hired to staff the restaurant, including three schooled chefs, who Perez says will employ their respective specialties.

“One of my cooks worked in Las Vegas at the Louisiana Bar, and he knows how to cook southern food,” said Perez. “They’re (Le) Cordon Bleu chefs .. they know how to put a meal out.”

A longtime Barstow businessman, Perez calls the buffet restaurant his “latest and greatest adventure.”

Over the years Perez has operated a variety of Barstow businesses including a liquor store and a car repair shop near Stater Bros. grocery store. Most recently Perez operated a catering truck business at the corner of Main Street and Barstow Road that served the United States Marine Corps Logistics Base.

Required kitchen upgrades Perez looking for a new location in April. Perez found the Barstow Mall space for his restaurant and hopes to have his catering operation up and running from his current space.

“It’s a good location,” said Perez. “It’s right on Main Street by the freeway, with plenty of parking.”

Perez said he is glad that he had to move to a new location and hopes to serve the people of Barstow where they live.

“That’s why I call it Our Town. The people of Barstow have been good to me and supported me in my adventures in our town ... they deserve a good restaurant.”
