BARSTOW • A 57-year-old Las Vegas woman died from injuries she suffered when her car swerved off Interstate 15 and rolled Wednesday afternoon.

California Highway Patrol Officer Rich Vega said the 57-year-old was driving northbound on Interstate 15, south of Lenwood Road and north of Outlet Center Drive, when she lost control of her car. The car swerved across several lanes before going airborne and rolling into the desert, according to Vega. Vega said witnesses place the car’s speed at around 85 to 90 mph.

Vega said the 57-year-old woman and a 42-year-old passenger, also from Las Vegas, were both wearing seat belts, but the driver incorrectly wore her shoulder restraint under her arm. She was partially ejected in the wreck.

The 42-year-old passenger was transported to Barstow Community Hospital with major injuries.

The coroner has not released the victim’s name. The CHP is investigating the collision.
