Wet, wintery Barstow
Area rain and snow returns, but brighter days ahead
BARSTOW• In the northern area of Barstow, snow was visible on mountainsides Friday and early morning drizzle prompted some to reach for their umbrellas.
Thunderstorms are possible Friday night as a one-day hazardous weather outlook is in effect for the area, but beginning Saturday, it’s expected to get increasingly warmer and clear, according to the National Weather Service.
Saturday’s forecast calls for sun and a high of 60 degrees.
Escalating high temperatures are expected to continue through Thursday, which is expected to bring a daytime high near 80 degrees, according to NWS.
Friday’s snowfall in Barstow marked the second rare occurrence of it in a little over two weeks.
On Feb. 20, an overnight storm brought light snow and icy roads. In turn, Interstate 15 was marred with crashes, which forced a temporary shutdown of northbound lanes from D Street in Victorville to Outlet Center Drive.
As appears will be the case now, based on NWS forecasts, that wintery weather wasn’t prolonged.
