Two arrested in residential burglaries
BARSTOW • Two Barstow men were arrested on Saturday as the suspects in recent burglaries and for possession of stolen property.
Kevin Ortiz, 19, and Darnell Cleveland, 19, were arrested after Barstow Police officers observed them walking along Rimrock Road at 11:06 p.m. Saturday, carrying items including a large flat screen TV, laptop computer and bag containing jewelry, according to a Barstow police report. The items were later identified as stolen property from a residential burglary reported earlier that day in the area of Barcelona Court and Rimrock Road.
Before the arrest, Barstow Police Corp. Albert Toro reported seeing two men allegedly casing houses in the area of Rimrock Road and Barcelona Court, the site of recent vehicular and residential burglaries, according to a police report. Toro, who was off duty at the time, alerted the Barstow Police Department Dispatch Center.
Officers responding to Toro’s location found Ortiz and Cleveland on Rimrock Road carrying the items. The two were arrested and booked into San Bernardino County Jail on charges of burglary and possession of stolen property.
During the investigation, officers alsofound items stolen in another residential burglary that was reported on Dec. 30. All property was returned to the owners, according to the report.
