Man arrested with $200K in guns, drugs
Detectives investigate suspect for trafficking
Barstow officers seized about $200,000 worth of narcotics and firearms, including a Los Angeles deputy’s gun reported stolen, during a traffic stop on Interstate 15.
John Davis, 57, of Riverside was arrested Sunday after California Highway Patrol officers searched his 2003 Mercedes Benz and found a large amount of cash, high capacity magazines, narcotics and two handguns — one of which was reported stolen from a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy.
Officers were searching for a vehicle involved in a non-injury hit and run when they approached Davis’ car parked near Yates Wells Road and Interstate 15. There they found Davis asleep and narcotic paraphernalia in plain sight.
The next day San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Narcotics investigators served search warrants for his Riverside residence and his smog shop in Fontana. Again they found a large amount of cash, various narcotics, five handguns, two sub-machine guns, a shotgun, numerous high capacity magazines and a large amount of ammunition.
Detectives are still investigating whether he was trafficking the guns and narcotics.
Davis was booked at West Valley Detention Center with bail set at $50,000. He was released from custody on bail at 9:37 p.m. Monday.
