Man killed in shooting accident
A man died from wounds sustained in a recreational shooting accident while he and his friends were visiting the desert area between Victorville and Barstow.
The 23-year-old Canadian was visiting friends from Phelan when he was shot around 4 p.m. Saturday in the desert west of the Interstate 15 freeway and north of Hodge Road, according to a report by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office. His name has not been released pending notification of family.
He was pronounced dead by fire personnel responding to the scene, Sheriff’s spokesperson Jodi Miller said in an email.
Investigators do not suspect foul play, Miller said.
Examinations are underway to determine the cause and manner of the death. The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
