BARSTOW — Firefighters combated a blaze that tore through vegetation here Tuesday evening, authorities said.

Reports of a fire near Avenue H and W. Main Street were received just after 6:20 p.m. Tuesday. Fire personnel arrived and found a blaze in the tree line behind the 1520 block of W. Main Street.

Barstow Fire Protection District Chief Jamie Williams said several fire personnel, including two BFPD engines, a water tender, a mutual aid engine from the Marine Corps Logistics Base and a water tender from Hinkley, responded to the blaze. It was finally doused in two hours, Williams said.

The blaze burned about a quarter acre of vegetation in the tree line, but didn’t spread further before containment. No injuries were reported, Williams said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
