The historic Harvey House has a new resident in Sunset Hills Family of Mortuaries, as the company will expand its services to the Barstow area.

To welcome their new location, Sunset Hills will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Thursday with beer tasting, historic cars and more.

An 1800s horse-drawn hearse, a 1947 Cadillac and a 2017 Cadillac will be on hand at the ceremony as a visual representation of the growing ages.

For those 21 years and older, beer tasting also will be available thanks to Oak Hills Brewing Company. There will be a mock funeral following the ribbon cutting to display the many services Sunset Hills has to offer.

The mortuary was asked by local businesses and officials to offer their services to the Barstow area to help fill a need for flexible pricing options.

Just as their other facilities, Sunset Hills will have low-cost options, providing a price match offer with any competitor.

Sunset Hills Barstow also will provide a wide-range of options for those dealing with the loss of a loved one, including tribute videos, burials, memorial websites, cremations, funeral services and more. There is also burial benefits available for veterans.

“We provide a superior service and price as we have the flexibility of being privately owned,” Sunset Hills General Manager Erin Rose said.

Sunset Hills Mortuary Barstow “will be leveraging the local cemetery” to promote business within Mt. View Memorial Park in Barstow, as opposed to directing customers to their own memorial park in Apple Valley.

They also plan to give back to Mt. View Memorial Park by donating a portion of their funds accumulated from market sales.

“We are the longest locally owned and operated mortuary that gives back,” Rose said.

Sunset Hills Mortuary Barstow will be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Although the office hours are limited, there is a calling service available 24/7.

“We are open seven days a week by nature of death — it happens 24/7,” Rose said.

Sunset Hills Mortuary Barstow is located in Suites 201 and 211 at the Harvey House, 685 N. First Ave. For more information, call 760-979-2055 or visit
