Assemblyman Jay Obernolte, R-Hesperia, announced Wednesday that he and the Contractors State License Board will host a free Senior Scam Stopper seminar from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. June 23 at Victorville City Hall, Conference Room D, 14343 Civic Drive, Victorville.
A panel of experts will provide information to seniors on how to protect themselves from becoming victims of fraud. Attendees can get answers to their questions and obtain assistance if they have been scammed.
“Scams such as identity theft and fraud are serious issues that often target the elderly,” Obernolte said. “I want to do everything I can to educate my constituents so they do not fall victim to these scams.”
Also participating will be Victorville Mayor Gloria Garcia, who has been a victim of identity theft.
“Through my personal experience, I have learned that identity theft can strike anyone,” Garcia said. “Education is the first step in protecting oneself from scams and fraud, so I encourage everyone to take advantage of this free seminar that will offer helpful advice and resources.”
