BARSTOW — A woman was airlifted after her vehicle crashed through a power pole and into a home early Sunday, authorities said.

The incident occurred near the intersection of S. First Avenue and E. Buena Vista Street at 3:51 a.m. Sunday. Kept upright only by its power lines, the crash sheared the power pole nearly in half while the driver of the vehicle and one of the home’s occupants sustained injuries from the impact.

Barstow Fire Protection District Interim Chief Jamie Williams said personnel responded to the incident at 3:51 a.m. Sunday. The woman first collided with the power pole — with the impact breaking off its bottom part — before she crashed into a section of a home in the 100 block of E. Buena Vista Street.

The home was occupied by two people, Barstow Police Department Captain Andrew Espinoza said, while the vehicle was only occupied by its driver. She was extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel before being transported by air to a trauma center, Williams said.

One of the home’s occupants suffered minor injuries and was treated and released on scene, Espinoza said. Further details on the injuries weren't available Monday.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but alcohol is suspected to be a factor, Espinoza said.
