BARSTOW — A 36-year-old Lenwood man accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old runaway girl is expected to appear before a judge Tuesday afternoon if criminally charged by prosecutors, booking records show.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested Justin Michael Haverlock, 36, and Michael Preston West, 22, in connection with the alleged assault.
West, arrested at his home in the 35200 block of Walnut Street on Friday, posted $50,000 bail and was released from custody after he was booked on suspicion of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor, booking records show. Deputies arrested Haverlock also on suspicion lewd or lascivious acts with a minor on Saturday morning in the 25200 block of Jade Road.
Authorities say deputies were helping a local mother locate her runaway daughter in the area of Jade Road and Walnut Avenue on Friday.
“After locating the runaway juvenile, allegations of a possible sexual assault were reported,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement. “Deputies, and a detective from the Barstow Sheriff's Station conducted the investigation throughout the night. They determined that during the two-day period the juvenile was a runaway she was victimized by two adult males that she had met in her neighborhood.”
Authorities identified West and Haverlock as the suspects and arrested them.
Haverlock was being held at High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto in lieu of $50,000 bail, booking records show.
