Current business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs who would like to learn how to comply with California’s often complex tax laws are invited to attend a free Small Business Seminar and Resource Expo from 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Holiday Inn, 15494 Palmdale Road, Victorville.

California State Board of Equalization (BOE) member George Runner is sponsoring the expo with state Senator Scott Wilk, Assemblyman Jay Obernolte, San Bernardino County Supervisor Robert Lovingood, San Bernardino County Assessor-Recorder Bob Dutton, the City of Victorville, and the Victor Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“Small businesses are a critical part of California’s economy,” Runner said in a written statement. “Our goal is to help business owners be successful by ensuring they understand California’s complicated tax laws.”

Those looking for help with state and federal tax issues, as well as those who want to expand their business knowledge, will benefit from informative presentations.

Among the topics to be discussed are: avoiding common sales and use tax problems, forms of ownership, employee versus independent contractor, and recordkeeping.

Representatives from the Board of Equalization, Employment Development Department, Franchise Tax Board, and Internal Revenue Service will conduct the presentations and answer questions.
